drunk-driving-deaths Since 1954, Young and Young has been travelling all over the State of Indiana representing Hoosiers injured by the negligence of others. From our Indianapolis offices we have taken pride in standing up for the underdogs: the family who was hurt in an auto accident, the breadwinner who could no longer work because of injuries from a semi tractor trailer accident, the young person who was paralyzed because of a spinal cord injury in a construction accident, the mother whose brain injury from a drunk driver accident prevents her from taking care of her children. These examples represent just a fraction of the Hoosiers who have asked us to help them in their time of need. We were honored and proud to represent them, and we pledge our honor in the pursuit of your claim.

We are saddened to report that people still drink, and then get behind the wheel. Parents, we strongly suggest that you tell your teenagers that if they have been drinking (we know we do not want them to drink but sometimes children do come into contact with alcohol) that they must not drive. Instead call home and you will pick them up and no arguments will be had that night. A discussion and consequences will likely occur in the morning, but that is so much better than being put in jail or worse yet waking up with the guilt of killing or seriously killing another Hoosier. We tell the kids that we will guarantee the cab fare home if it comes to that. Tell them to stay where they are if it’s safe, anything to keep them from drinking and driving.

On Sunday August 15, 2101, Roman Casel, an eighteen year old was killed by a drunk driver. Michael Reynolds is accused (No matter what, Mr. Reynolds is presumed innocent until proven guilty) of getting behind the wheel and causing a drunk driving accident. Mr. Reynolds hit Mr. Casel in the 6500 block of West 56th Street at 9:23 p.m. Mr. Reynolds turned left in front of Mr. Casel, causing the collision. Our deepest sympathies go out to Mr. Casel’s family. We hope that Mr. Reynolds will acknowledge his fault and get the help he needs to not only stop drinking but to warn others of the dangers of alcohol.

In an update on another very unfortunate situation, the attorneys for the Indianapolis police officer accused of drinking and driving while on duty and causing a collision which killed one and severely injured others, David Bisard, filed a motion challenging the blood tests taken an hour and a half after the collision. Although the exact nature of the challenge is not clear, it seems to be that there was no probable cause to believe the officer was drinking and driving, therefore there was no legal reason to take blood. We suspect this is based on testimony from officers at the scene who stated that Bisard did not smell of alcohol and did not appear to be intoxicated. The judge has yet to rule of the defense’s motion.
