Indianapolis Personal Injury Law Firm History

Young & Young — A Proud Tradition of Service to Indiana

The Young Family has been an important part of the Indiana Legal Community since 1903 when Howard S. Young, Sr. started helping Hoosiers. Howard, Sr. practiced for forty years before becoming the 76th Justice of the Indiana Supreme Court. Howard, Sr. also served as President of the Indianapolis Bar Association from 1931-1932. In 1951, Howard, Sr., stepped down from the Supreme Court and joined his son Howard, Jr., to form Young & Young in 1954.

Howard S. Young, Sr. — Howard S. Young, Jr.— Mary McNulty Young

Indianapolis Law Firm HistoryHoward S. Young, Jr. started helping Hoosiers in 1936. He took time out of his practice to serve his country as a Naval Captain in WW II from 1941-1946. Howard, Jr. returned to Indianapolis, and in 1954 had the honor of working with his dad, Howard, Sr. Howard, Jr. was a founding member of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association, serving two terms as President. He was also President of the Indianapolis Bar Association from 1976-1977.

Howard, Jr. was a pioneer in Indiana personal injury law. Known as a Lawyer's Lawyer, he was a Gentleman and a Leader, having mentored many, many lawyers who went on to successfully help Hoosiers.

Howard, Jr., married Mary Angela McNulty, a pioneering woman lawyer in the State of Indiana, in 1954. Howard and Mary have nine children.

In a tribute to Mary and Howard, all six boys, Thomas (Tom), Richard (Drew), William (Bill), James (Jim), Joseph (Joe) and John earned their Eagle Scout Awards, making them one of only a handful of families in the nation with Seven Eagle Scouts in the immediate family (Howard earned his Eagle Scout in 1927). Two of Howard, Jr.'s grandsons have earned their Eagle Scout.

The six boys all earned their law degrees and practiced with the family firm, Young & Young. Tom has since retired. Bill is a Marion County Superior Court Judge. Drew was President and Trial Lawyer of the Year. The rest of the boys, along with their Partner, Fredrick W. Crow, 2007 President of both the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association and the Boone County Bar Association, aim to maintain the highest standards set for them by Howard, Sr., Howard, Jr. and Mary.

Young & Young first hung out its shingle in the Circle Tower Building on the circle in Downtown Indianapolis. In 1976, Young & Young bought, renovated and moved, around the corner, into a former bank building located at 118 N. Delaware Street. Young and Young grew out of 118 N. Delaware, so the family renovated the building located next door and moved in 1986. Young & Young, a powerful family firm, has enjoyed 128 N. Delaware ever since.

Young & Young's tradition and heritage are based on family. We are a family firm committed to Hoosier families by representing only the injured. Our goal is excellent personal service. We work hard to help those in need, turn back those who stand in the way of helping those in need, and improve our City and State. Ask any lawyer in Indianapolis, chances are not only have they heard of us, they respect us, for what we have done to help Hoosiers. We strive to be that friend and family, to both our fellow attorneys and our clients.
